A Day of Private Snowboard Lessons and Resort Guiding in Rusutsu – January 21, 2025
On January 21, 2025, we had the pleasure of guiding and teaching a group of six snowboarders from Thailand. They joined us at Rusutsu Resort for a full-day private snowboard lesson combined with some resort guiding.
Although the snow was a bit firm, the clear weather made it the perfect day to practice carving turns. The main goal for everyone that day was to improve from skidded turns to proper carving turns.
Tailored Coaching from Skidded to Carved Turns
Before we hit the slopes, we explained the key points of carving. Mastering an active stance—keeping your body balanced and engaged—is essential. We also worked on edge control and the timing of edge changes, both of which are critical to achieving smooth and clean carving.
Rusutsu Private Snowboard School in Action
At the beginning of the lesson, we focused on minimizing unnecessary body movement and used drills that encouraged students to lean into their turns and draw thin lines with their edge. These exercises help riders build the muscle memory needed for carving.
We also practiced keeping a low center of gravity with an active stance and introduced early edge changes to prevent tail slippage.
Impressive Progress on the Slopes
By the end of the session, everyone’s technique had visibly improved. It's always fulfilling to see guests progress and enjoy snowboarding even more.

Off-Piste Adventure and Local Snow Guide Knowledge
Although there wasn't fresh powder that day, the great weather allowed us to guide the group off-piste into tree-lined runs. It was their first off-piste experience, and while challenging, it was clear they had a great time.
On better powder days, we customize the guiding experience to match each rider’s level and help them find the best powder stashes in Rusutsu. With nearly 20 years of riding experience in the area, our local guides know exactly where to go depending on the day’s snow conditions.
We also got lucky with a stunning view of Mount Yotei from the top of the mountain—an unforgettable moment for the group.
