On January 8, 2025, we had the pleasure of hosting two sisters from Thailand for a Niseko Private Lesson.

Wrapped in fresh powder snow, the day was filled with progress, smiles, and a personalized lesson tailored to each of their skill levels.

Ideal Powder Conditions for Beginners

Snow continued to fall throughout the day, providing soft and forgiving terrain—perfect for beginners.

We met our guests at 9:00 a.m. at the Hirafu Base, where we exchanged greetings, introduced ourselves, and completed gear checks before starting the lesson.

Sisters on the Slopes: One Experienced, One First-Timer

Two women riding a ski lift together, smiling and enjoying the snowy mountain view in Hokkaido.

Our guests were sisters visiting from Thailand.

The older sister had snowboarded several times before and aimed to refine her turns.

Her younger sister, on the other hand, was experiencing snowboarding for the very first time.

Customized Lesson Based on Their Skill Levels

In the morning, we began with the basics: posture, board control, and edge engagement. We gradually built up from standing on flat terrain and shifting weight, to practicing edge control on gentle slopes.

For beginners, the most important skill is learning how to brake and control speed.Without this, going down a slope is like driving a car with no brakes. To ensure a safe experience, we spent plenty of time practicing speed and directional control.

Both sisters made steady progress at their own pace, and their confidence grew visibly as the morning went on.

Lunch Break at Afuri Ramen

During the lunch break, we visited the popular ramen spot Afuri.

With the snowy scenery outside the window, we enjoyed yuzu shio ramen and warm tea—a perfect way to recharge.

Learning to Control Speed and Direction

In the second half of the lesson, both sisters reached a major milestone:they were able to control their speed and navigate in their desired direction on the slope by themselves.

Even complete beginners can learn to safely ride within a single day, when they receive the right instruction in the right conditions. This day was a perfect example of that.

Capturing the Moment

We ended the lesson with a commemorative photo on the slopes.

Surrounded by fresh snow and a stunning winter backdrop, it was truly a moment that can only be experienced in Niseko.
