Two snowboarders posing together at Kiroro Ski Resort in Hokkaido, Japan – capturing memories during a private lesson with stunning snowy mountain views.

From April 7 to 10, 2025, we had the pleasure of providing carving turn lessons to guests visiting from Thailand in Kiroro Ski Resort.

We were blessed with great weather throughout the trip. However, since it’s April, the snow had become slushy and heavy due to melting, which made edge control challenging — not the easiest conditions for practicing carving turns.

That said, spring snow is soft, so it’s actually a great time for beginners to try snowboarding, as falling doesn’t hurt as much compared to mid-winter conditions.

Rapid Progress Even in Challenging Spring Snow

Despite the difficult snow conditions, our students showed remarkable progress. By the second half of the lessons, they were able to carve smooth, clean lines down the slope.

For their next step, we recommended working on bending their knees and lowering their center of gravity while turning — which will bring them even closer to mastering perfect carving turns.

They're just one step away from truly polished riding!

Kiroro Ski Resort in April – Many Slopes Closed

In April, many slopes and lifts at Kiroro Resort close for the season. If you’d like to enjoy the full resort area, we recommend visiting before the end of March (only the lifts marked with red lines were in operation during our visit).

If you're looking to experience Hokkaido’s world-class powder snow, the best months to visit are January and February.

Side Trip to Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort

Due to the limited number of open runs at Kiroro, we also made a day trip to Sapporo Kokusai Ski Resort, which is about a 40-minute drive away.

This resort offers gentle slopes and wide-open runs, making it ideal for beginner and intermediate riders. It’s also a great option for those looking to explore beyond Kiroro. We’re happy to provide transportation upon request.

Leave Ski Resort Selection to the Experts

Choosing the right resort based on snow conditions and your riding level is crucial for creating the best snowboarding experience in Hokkaido.

With years of experience, we at ICHI SNOW SCHOOL are confident in recommending the perfect resort for each guest.

If you’re looking to make the most of your winter holiday in Hokkaido, let us help you create unforgettable memories on the snow.
